DIY Magnets with DCWV

Hello my wonderful friends!

Are you looking for a fun little gift idea, or stocking stuffer? How about a set of custom bottle cap magnets?

These ones are made with DCWV "Christmas Made" stack. (which is a beautiful stack!) The pillow box gift box and tag are also made from that stack. A completely matching set. LOVE!
These magnets are SUPER simple to make! I bought a whole bunch of flattened bottle caps online, so I didn't have to worry smashing my own. I then used a die to cut circles the right size. This line of paper has a couple different designs with images that fit PERFECTLY in the bottle caps!

A little Glossy Accents will glue the paper to the inside of the bottle cap. Once that is dry (which doesn't take long, fill the cap full of Glossy Accents. Set them aside to dry. This will take several hours, so you may just want to set them aside over night. Once dry, attach a magnet to the back with Glossy Accents.

Enjoy!

Supplies Used:
Paper: DCWV Christmas Made
Ink: Distress
Silhouette: Bracket Pillow Box
Dies: Quickuz "Nesting Circles"
Others: Glossy Accents, magnets, bottle caps, ribbon

Gifting Gift Cards Part 4– Pocket Card

As soon as I saw the Kneehighs & Bowties collection from BasicGrey I was totally in LOVE!
There is absolutely something for everyone in this collection! Yesterday I shared a gift card wallet for a girl and today I have something for the boy (or man) in your life. I will stop drooling now but just one more comment on Kneehighs & Bowties. How about the blue and orange together?? I really like this combination!!

This card is perfect for Father’s Day coming up in the next few months! The paper is light and fun but perfect for a male recipient. I love how snug my gift card fit into the pocket. It is a perfect fit and is simple enough but makes a great gift as well!
Make sure to stop by Basic Grey’s booth at Scrapbook USA (just over 2 weeks to go) and pick up some fun product!
Until then,

My latest installment features a candy/gift card envelope using BasicGrey’s “Hipster” collection. I LOVE this line and have had plenty of fun playing with it!

This project is another quick and easy idea for gifting a gift card. I started with a 12X6 sheet of cardstock. I used a cereal bowl as a template to round the top (scientific it is) and scored the paper in 3 places..
Starting from the flat end (the one that you didn’t use the cereal bowl on) I scored it at 3.5 inches, 5 inches and 8.5 inches.

Gift card w candy step 1

Separately I put together a little clear bag with some candy and the gift card. I placed 2 holes in the bag and threaded my ribbon through it.

gift card w candy step 2

Next I placed the bag onto the template and laid the ribbon out flat.

gift card w candy step 3

I could have added another photo here (I didn’t think of it) but instead, here is the finished product…

I used velcro to keep it closed. If you were to look into the side you would see the candy bag sitting there. It is attached by bringing the ribbon around and tying it on top. The base it is sitting on is 1.5 inches thick and is just the right size of bottom for it to sit up nicely.

I hope you enjoy this project, give it a try! Make sure to check out BasicGrey at Scrapbook USA Expo March 22-23, 2013!

Gifting Gift Cards Part 2 (As Seen on My Craft Channel)

I really went a little crazy with gift card ideas! I was looking for one fun and new idea and ended up with a number of ideas that I plan on using over and over.

You can check out ALL my ideas at once at My Craft Channel by watching my latest segment or you can follow me today and tomorrow while I roll out each one individually!

Earlier this morning I shared my Gift card snowglobe idea. Make sure to check that one out, it is SUPER cute! Now, I have a quick gift card wallet idea that works great for any occasion.

Today I am using BasicGrey’s new “Kneehighs & Bowties” collection. It is a super fun and young collection. This will be perfect for my niece’s birthday.

DSC_0030

I cut my paper to 12X6 and scored it in 2 places. I just “eyeballed” my folds to get it the size that I wanted. To get my rounded edges I used a cereal bowl as a template (very high-tech) and rounded it to my desired look. I added a pocket to the inside and some velcro for my closures.

I like how there is plenty of space on the inside to write a little note, personal message or add a photo. This space is perfect for my family of 7 because I like everybody to write their own names on cards and most of my kiddo’s names end with flowers and hearts (at least when they write their own names) so the extra space is perfect.

I think I am going to make one of these for Mother’s Day as well. Instead of a gift card I could add little notes and poems from each of the kids.

Super versatile and best of all SUPER easy! I hope you have as much fun as I have had putting together and personalizing one of these little Gift Card Wallets!

Gifting Gift Cards Part 1 (As Seen on My Craft Channel)

Happy Monday!! When I was planning my segments for My Craft Channel I wanted to put together a cute and creative way for gifting gift cards. Once I got going I ended up with a number of different ideas that I really LOVE!

Since some of them require some measurements and instructions I am breaking up today’s posts into 5 parts that I will share throughout today and tomorrow. You can wait for each of my posts OR better yet, check out a sampling of everything by watching today’s Creative Insights segment on My Craft Channel.

Sometimes gift cards are “gifted” as last resorts because we really don’t know what else to give but more often than not I like giving gift cards because I want to give my friend or family member the opportunity to pick up something special for themselves.

So, I have been brainstorming some fun and creative ways to give the gift card so that the receiver knows that it is a personal gift meant just for them…..

My first idea is also my personal favorite. I probably love it because I have 4 daughters and believe me, I am SO out of gift ideas. In my opinion, they have everything they need and if they don’t have it, I don’t really want it in our house. I have recently started giving them gift cards more often. The gift cards are meant to be used on dates with Dad or I. Last year I gave my 8 year old a gift certificate to Hales Theatre. We ended up having a fabulous time together seeing “The Sound of Music”. So with all the little girls in my home you can imagine that they would probably be intrigued if they received one of these for their birthday…

DSC_0046

My 4 year old loves snowglobes and asked for one for Christmas. I had seen tutorials for making them (which I meant to do over the holidays) but never did it. So instead, why not make one with the gift card inside. Putting together this temporary gift is super easy.

Just take a canning jar and fill it with water. Add some glitter (amount is up to you). Next get a ring with a canning lid inside. I used a couple glue dots to attach the gift card to the inside of the lid. I found this cute minnie around my house and she was a perfect fit inside the jar. I had planned on using glue dots to attach her to the lid but I didn’t need to because she fit in so snuggly.

Lastly I put the lid in place, screwed it tight and turned the jar upside down. Of course it needed a little more so I cut that trim with some BasicGrey paper and attached it with the bow and there it is, a cute and intriguing way to gift a gift card.

In addition, I love that after a special gift card is used , like this DisneyLand card, the memory can be remembered by keeping it safe in a homemade snowglobe.

So, Happy Gifting! Stay tuned for more gift card ideas later today...

Still Wrapping, Try This!

Ange here with some fun and easy boxes for gifting. I made all of these using papers from DCWV Crafty Christmas stack and added in some fun hand made paper bows using the DCWV Arctic Wishes mat stack.

I think I started with this tutorial here: Box. But really all you need to remember is that you want the lid to be about 1/8 of an inch bigger than the bottom so that it fits well. So for a 2x3 box with 1in. sides you cut a piece of paper that is 4x5 and score in 1 inch on each side, cut along the score line on two sides (but don't cut the corners out), fold in and tape. Then for the lid remember to add 1/8 for a nice fit. Also if you're going to do some border punching like I did, you'll want to consider how much the punch will take off. So for this example you would want to cut a paper 4-1/8x5-1/8, so that after the punching you have a bit of a fancy lid design showing on the side. For a deeper punched design you would need to add more.

Make your own bows like I did, tie them up with twine or add a little embellishment from your stash and you have a fun little box to gift your special present in.

Peppermint Bath Salts + DCWV = Great Gift Idea

Hello everyone!

Did you know that Peppermint oil has long been used to ease stress, boost energy, and elevate mood and mental clarity?  Sounds like what the doctor ordered for the holiday season, don't you think?

Peppermint bath salts
Equal parts Epson Salt & Sea Salt
A little Peppermint oil (careful, it's strong stuff! Don't over do it!)
A tiny bit of Orange Essential oil (this adds just a hint of sweet)
Soap coloring (if desired)

Place everything in a plastic baggie and shake.

Now to package.... I love the look of bath salts in glass jars. There is just something elegant about it. So, I used an old "Got Flowers" jar from Prima, and filled it up. (It holds about a cup of salts).

Of course you can leave it there, but, I've been very into labels lately...

DCWV "Traditional Holiday" stack has this beautiful circle as part of a border for one of the pages. I cut it out and glued it to the jar. It is super easy, and wonderfully beautiful. I tied a crinkle ribbon around the lid and added some holly. I think a candy cane tucked into the bow would also be fabulous!

And of course, you have to have a card. =)

I simply cut out one of the tags from the same paper stack and layered it on some altered kraft paper that I cut to make a custom shaped card.

Enjoy!

Supplies used:
Paper: DCWV "Traditional Holiday", tissue paper, kraft
Ink: Archival Ink, Distress Ink
Stamps: Prima "Music",
Creative Inspirations Paint: Gold
Other: Rock candy glitter, Prima bottle, silk floral, gesso, crinkle ribbon

Personal Gifts with MME - It's Not Too Late!

Andrea here with a Christmas gift idea!  Since I lack basic baking skills and we don't always know what to buy our various family members, my husband and I started making DVD's to give away as Christmas gifts.  Using a program like Adobe, we can make slide shows from family photos and video footage taken throughout the year (and if you're not tech-savvy, there are many companies that you can hire to do this for you).  This gift is personal, is always appreciated and can be extremely cost-effective.  And what better way is there to add an extra bit of "oomph" to the gift than packaging it with style?

I made this CD cover and decorative "belly band" using the absolutely beautiful "All is Bright" Christmas collection from My Mind's Eye.  Simply put, this is one of my favorite Christmas collections EVER.

Belly bands are a relatively easy way to dress up any sort of box or container.  You can wrap the box (or not) then wrap on a belly band to spruce it up.  They're a great alternative to a standard gift bow and with drool-causing collections like this one, your job's a snap!

So why not compile some family photos and make a DVD that will continue to give for generations?  You just can't beat watching your family's truimphs, disasters and embarrassments on the the big screen.  It's a gift that's thoughtful, personal and sure to be enjoyed during many holiday get-togethers.  And the best part is that you, as the Chief Editor, get to pick whether or not to include that awesome picture of you in 7th grade with scary hair, braces and half-closed eyes!  Happy holidays are coming!

Monogrammed Wall Hanging

Monthly Monday Challenge HERE

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a fun weekend spending time with loved ones! With the Turkey and Pie behind us, it is time to look forward to the Christmas Gift Giving Season!

Looking for an inexpensive, yet cute, crafty gift to give this Christmas?

I LOVE the personal touch you can give with a monogrammed wall hanging. I actually made this a few weeks ago as a bridal shower gift but it would also make a fantastic Christmas gift, especially for that loved one who already has everything.

DSC_0048

I purchased the frame at Hobby Lobby. It was 50% off so I paid $10.00 for it. You could save some cash by purchasing a less expensive frame or by purchasing an unfinished frame and painting it yourself. I used some paper from home and some vinyl I got at our fall show in September for $1.00 per sheet (scratch and dent section in the Oh My Crafts booth). Looking at my line up of Christmas gift ideas, I should have gotten more.

This project did not make a huge mess and was super quick and easy to put together!

Picture That Sound And MME Memory Box Gift

If you are here for the Scrapbook USA expo Blog Hop. WELCOME!  Click Here

Hello!  Andrea here with a great gift idea as the holidays approach.  I wanted to create something handmade that was pretty to look at, but also had the POW of emotional impact.  The result?  This memory box!

So what's the theory of a "memory box" and how did I create it?  I wanted to make something for my mom, who has filled my life with gifts from her talented sewing hands.  She made me beautiful clothes while I was growing up, she sewed a quilt for me when I got married, and she kept my dolls stylin' when I was a kid by surprising me with new outfits for them.  She is so talented in any sort of handwork and I wanted to honor her for that.  So I put together some notions and fabric to fill the inside of the box:

On these items, I wrote some of my favorite sewing-related memories of her (stamped onto the cloth that unrolls from the spools, written on the back of the button packages, etc.).

Next, I included this nifty recordable card from  Picture that Sound (Special web code at the bottom of the post).  It's a company that makes cards which you can embellish and record a message onto.  You get 20 seconds of recording time to leave just the right sentiment for your loved one.

The card started out like this:

(Front and back views-- you can decorate either side)

And I made it into this.  My mom will just push the "play" button on the back to hear my message.

Adding a personalized message instantly makes any gift more memorable!  So with the notes written to my mom on the sewing notions and a card with a recorded message, I'm hoping she'll see just how much I love and cherish the beautiful things she's made me over the years.

For this project, I used paper, stickers and embellishments from "The Sweetest Thing" collection from My Mind's Eye.  Always LOVE pretty much anything that MME cranks out!  I also used stick pins from Maya Road and flowers from Prima, some of my other favorite brands.

So if you're struggling to know what to give someone this year, try a memory box filled with things they love, and reasons why you love them, too!  And keep checking my blog for other great holiday ideas!

Let’s Talk Candy!

Putting on a Halloween Party this week? How about some fun treat bag party favors? I am not hosting any parties but there are a few days of school until Halloween, so there will be some “surprise” lunch treats for the kiddo’s (they will LOVE these).  My middle schooler will even appreciate finding these fun treats created by Kassi H from our design team.

candy bag topper 2

Product used: DCWV Halloween & Fall stack, DCWV Halloween embellishment flip pack, white cardstock eyelets, seam binding, Distress Ink, Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher,  Spellbinders "Label 18", Quickutz "Nesting Circle" die (on the pumpkin topper)   candy bag topper 4

candy bag topper 3

Notes: The topper base is made from card stock that is folded in half. I then die cut it with the edge of the die slightly off the folded edge. They can then be decorated, and slipped over the top of the bag. I use Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher to secure the topper over the bag. This is a fun way to turn plain bags into personalized party favors.    candy bag topper 1

See more from Kassi over on her blog and have a fantastic day!
