The Scoop on Electrical Access at the Show

In recent years the need for electrical access at the show has increased. While South Towne Expo Center is an awesome facility, unfortunately, they do not offer free access to electricity.
We are always trying to find new ways to make cropping at the show easy and convenient. With that said, there are a few ways to get electrical access:
Charging Station: If you are using a laptop and just need to “juice” up for an hour or so, stop by Scrap Orchard’s “Charging Station” and check in your laptop for a charge while you do some shopping. This is a convenient way to get your laptop up and going so when you are ready to sit back down it will be ready to go. No limit on how many times you use the “Charging Station”.

Digi Lounge: Enjoy reserved seats near the digital vendors. Includes regular show admittance and electrical.
VIP – Enjoy the VIP experience at the show which includes electrical access along with a load of other bonus swag for your enjoyment.
Reserved Seating – Like VIP, reserved seating includes electrical access along with some other fun “perks”.
All Night Crop – The All Night Crop rooms will have electrical access. Please bring extension cords and enjoy your electronics all night long.

Episode 1 is all about Valentine’s Day! I used Fancy Pants “Love Notes” collection for all of the projects and I gotta say, they turned out really cute!

Valentine’s is just a few days away so here is a quick round up of some of the fun ideas I found at some of our vendor’s blogs.

First, visit Fancy Pants Designs today, they are running a giveaway right now to win their darling Love Notes Collection. Plus they have a number of cute ideas using this collection from cards to layouts!

Over at DCWV there are some cute Valentine’s gift boxes with DCWV product. These were made using DCWV’s Evergreen Paper Stack from Christmas. Lot’s of red’s at Christmas to take advantage of this week!

Here are a few more Valentine’s projects from the Design team over at DCWV. There are some FUN colors in these ideas, plus some unlikely colors that as it turns out, work perfectly for Valentine’s!

Now, let’s pop on over to My Mind’s Eye. Super fun ideas on their blog as well. Again some non-traditional colors especially in these first few projects but I love that. It really makes the red pop!

Cute treat bags. Perfect size for sliding a microwave popcorn into the back.

You will want to hop over to MME’s blog for the tutorial on this cute picture frame with rolled paper.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Basic Grey Cards

Hello and good morning....

It's Wendi here up on the blog today. I have become a HUGE fan of those little strips at the bottom of the papers that have a little bit of the paper showing on them. Those strips can be super useful on your projects. Today I am going to share a few things that you can do with those strips. I am using Basic Grey's Mint Julep line.

First cut all your strips off your papers and it should look like this:

Once you trim off the wording and barcode , you can cut further and cut the scallop design out to create scallop layers on your project. I made this card, layering the scallops on the side, to add a design border to the side:
I also cut scallops and added them to the sentiment tag:
On this second card I am sharing with you, I actually left the full scallops and just used the paper strips to layer on the card. I also distressed the edges and pushed them back a bit to show the dimension it created:
You can see it a bit better on an angle:
So don't throw away those strips!!!! Use them and add a little flair to your projects...

Thanks so much for stopping by today....and don't forget to make an extra card or 2 for The Original Scrapbook USA Expo's Care With Cards!

Valentine-Christmas Decor

Valentine Christmas Decor

I can't believe it's almost Valentine's Day! I love this holiday for several reasons, one being that it gives me something to look forward to during our frigid January. And I love decorating for it. I've had this particular project on the brain for awhile and it was fun to finally sit down and get it done. Plus, it's another cheap craft utilizing things from the dollar store. Love it! It was also nice because I used some leftover paper I had from Christmas, the Die Cuts With A View "Traditional Holiday Stack". It was the craft paper with some red patterns on it. It matched the burlap perfectly!

Here are the supplies:

Burlap (I chose a cream color), patterned paper, jute with a large needle,
dollar store canvas, and buttons.

Measure your burlap so that it overlaps. I used two layers of burlap because the pattern
on the canvas was showing through with just one. I glued each one down once at a time.

I used hot glue and wrapped it like a present. Be careful! Hot glue guns
and burlap equal burned fingers :)
All wrapped up.

Next week, I cut the heart from the patterned paper. I
just traced my own heart to make it look more homespun.
I then threaded the jute (a thinner jute) through my large knitting needle
and stitched around the edges.

Next, hot glue the heart to the burlap. The jute did make the paper lift (I couldn't
get it to lay flat), but that's okay. If you hot glue around the edges, it will be fine. It gives
it some extra little dimension.

Finally, I added my details. A couple of buttons and a really cute
canvas sticker from All My Memories called "Text Styles".

I had this longer canvas on hand and decided to do an extra
canvas. Why not right?

I love how cute and rustic they are. Now, off to tend to my burnt finger tips :)

Care With Cards - Huntsman Cancer Institute

There are SO many ways that we can work together to give back during Scrapbook USA Expo this year!

Huntsman Cancer Institute has a few needs and I know we are the perfect ladies to get them what they need!

Here are a few of their needs that we will be collecting at the show!

Journals:
During radiation or chemotherapy patients receive journals to record their thoughts and experiences. These journals donated at the last show were just what they are looking for.

Using mod podge just cover a composition notebook and decorate it in cute and refreshing colors. The facility could really use these!

Quilts, Hats and Other opportunities: Visit here to get the specifics. Scroll down to "Group Service Projects"

Care With Cards - Operation Write Home

This year at The Original Scrapbook USA Expo we will be continuing to support Operation Write Home.  We have already donated over 10,000 cards to this great organization. Let's see what we can do this year!

Over 1.5 million cards have been sent to U.S. troops stationed overseas through Operation Write Home. Ever single week they are shipping to U.S. bases all over the world.

Thanks to this great organization our troops are able to pick up a handmade card for free that they can use to write a note to a love one and then ship home to family and friends.

Because of the nature of this project there are a number of guidelines that must be followed in order for Operation Write Home to be able to use the card.

Please visit their GUIDELINES page before getting started so you know the do's and don'ts.

Appropriate themes are really important. Upcoming holidays that we can be involved in are:

Father's Day
Independence Day
Halloween

Other themes that are ALWAYS welcome are:

Just Because
Birthday (teen and adult especially)
Thinking Of You
Blank

Bring your cards to the show. We have a collection area near the center stage where we will be collecting your cards.

In addition to Operation Write Home there are a few other organizations we will be supporting this year. Check out other opportunities:
